Main Capital Partners on Wednesday announced that it has bought two German companies, PLATO and iqs. Main will combine the two to create a software group for engineering and quality management processes. The combined company will serve over 750 global customers and will employ a team of approximately 140 people.

“Organisations across the globe increasingly realise the need to adopt engineering and quality management software to comply with frequent changes in legislative requirements, meet market demands and ensure customer safety,” said Sven van Berge Henegouwen, head of DACH activities at Main Capital Partners. “We are excited to support PLATO and iqs in joining forces and see ample opportunities to jointly grow the new and highly complementary group in the German-speaking region, the US, and beyond, and look forward to work together with both teams.”

iqs caters to a client base primarily in German-speaking regions in Europe as well as other countries in mainland Europe where PLATO only has a limited footprint. PLATO has an established presence in the US and will support iqs’ market entry into North America.

PLATO is headquartered in Lübeck and offers a multi-tenant cloud platform with functionalities like failure mode and effects analysis, inspection and control planning, functional safety, monitoring and system response, document management and other related services.

Main bought the two firms from their founders, who along with senior management remain with the companies.

“Manufacturers globally are under increasing pressure to eliminate failures in the production process and reduce errors,” said Andreas Großmann, founder and CEO of PLATO. “By combining our offering with iqs, we increase the breath off solutions we can offer to our clients. We further strongly believe that with Main as a partner and their long-standing experience in the software market, we can play a key role in supporting our clients during these challenging times and helping them on their manufacturing digital transformation.”

iqs offers customers a quality management software suite that connects the full range of quality processes in one database. It provides advanced product quality planning, feasibility studies, requirements management, initial sample inspection reports as well as complaints and audit management. The company is headquartered in Bühl and was founded in 1995.

“We are very excited about this next growth step for iqs together with PLATO and Main Capital Partners,” said Ulrich Mangold, CEO of iqs. “This step will enable us to realise our ambitions in the coming years and achieve our strategic goals more rapidly. We are convinced that we have the right resources and expertise in this new environment to become the leading player in the engineering and quality management software market. This includes further expansion into North America where PLATO has shown significant growth over the last five years.”

Main Capital Partners is a Dutch private equity firm headquartered in The Hague. It targets enterprise software companies in the Benelux, DACH and Nordics regions and has over €2.2 billion in assets under management.
